Into the Blue takes us to Rhodes for a mystery involving disappearance, suspicion and a trail that winds through the island. It is a very different way of experiencing Rhodes, because the landscape becomes part of the story.
Our base is Pefkos, a relaxed seaside resort on the east coast of the island. There is plenty to do, but there is no pressure to be sightseeing every day. You can spend time by the pool, walk to the beach, explore the local tavernas or simply settle down with your book.

The book
Into the Blue
Harry Barnett is living on Rhodes when a young woman disappears while on a walking trip. Soon under suspicion, he sets out to retrace the events leading up to her disappearance.
The mystery takes us through Rhodes and beyond, making the island much more than just a backdrop to the story.
Reading Into the Blue before travelling gives us another way of looking at Rhodes. Places, landscapes and details become part of the conversation, as we discover the island through the eyes of the book.
The place
Pefkos, Rhodes
Pefkos is a relaxed seaside resort on the south-east coast of Rhodes, with sandy beaches, clear blue water, restaurants, bars and plenty of places to sit and read.
It is also a good base for seeing more of the island. Lindos is only around 5 kilometres away, while Rhodes Town and the island's historic sights can be explored on an optional excursion or independently.
The idea is not to fill the week with organised activities. This is a holiday where the book, the setting and the time to enjoy yourself all matter.

During the week we'll talk about Into the Blue and discover how Robert Goddard uses Rhodes as part of the story.
The discussions are relaxed rather than academic. There is no need to be a literary expert or even a particularly confident book-club speaker.
There will also be our popular “A Book I Love” session, giving everyone the chance to tell the group about a book they have enjoyed.
Where you'll stay
Pefkos Village Resort
Pefkos Village Resort is a 4-star hotel set in peaceful gardens, a short walk from the beach and the centre of Pefkos.
There is an outdoor pool, restaurant, poolside snack bar and free Wi-Fi, making it an easy place to spend time without needing to go anywhere.
Rooms were refurbished for 2025 and include air conditioning, a fridge, kettle and private balcony or terrace.
Travelling alone?
Come on your own. You won't be on your own.
Most guests on Books in Places trips travel alone, and the shared love of books gives everyone an easy starting point for conversation.
You can join the group for dinners, discussions and excursions, or spend some time doing your own thing. There is no pressure to be together all the time.
