A room with a view
A Room with a View has been a classic since it was first published in 1908. The first part of the book is set in Florence in the early 1900s as upper-middle-class English women are beginning to lead more independent, adventurous lives. While on vacation in Italy with her overly-fussy spinster cousin and chaperone, Miss Charlotte Bartlett, affluent young Lucy Honeychurch becomes attracted to passionate, vital George Emerson .
We will talk about the book over dinner in an authentic Florence restaurant on the South side of the Arno. Dinner included in the trip cost.
We will visit the sites of Florence and soak up the atmosphere of the beautiful city, little changed since E.M.Foster visited.
It is all about being socialable and making new friends. Enjoying Florence with new people that you already have a shared interest with.

After arriving in the afternoon, we will all meetup in the afternoon and have a welcome drink before heading out to for something to eat locally.
Wednesday 27th September
We will head down to the start of our gentle wander around the sites and locations in the book. We will start our tour at the famous Ponte Vecchio, the only bridge in Florence spared from destruction during the Second World War. It is noted for the shops built along it; building shops on such bridges was once a common practice. In the afternoon you are free to wander around the medieval city and take in the sights at your leisure or use the time to just sit and read in one of the many beautiful cafes and bars in the city or in the gardens of the hotel.
In the evening I have booked a table for us all at I’Brindellone, an authentic Florence restaurant that is popular with local Florentians, where we will chat about the book over a relaxed meal.
Thursday 28th September
Thursday is a free today to spend as you wish. The gorgeous Boboli Gardens are a short walk from the hotel and features in the book or you may prefer exploring more of the sights of the medieval centre of Florence and take in a visit to the Uffizi gallery to see where works by Michelangelo, de Vinci and Botticellis The birth of Venus.Friday 29th September

Our final meal after our wonderful first trip
Dinner and book chat in a very Italian resturant
THE COST
Included in the cost of the trip:
- Walking tour of the main sites of Florence from the book
- Evening meal at I’Brindellone, the restaurant where we will discuss the book together.
- Book meeting over dinner at I’Brindellone
- A welcome drink on the first evening so we can all meet each other
There are only ten places on this trip, so early booking essential. As people will come from different places and want to stay for different lengths of time, flights and accommodation are not included, but direct flights are available to Florence airport from Gatwick, London city airport and Edinburgh amongst others. I can also recommend flying into Pisa airport and getting the train into Florence from there. If you want to travel in a sustainable way, there are trains that go from London to Florence every day regularly.
Complete the booking form below, after which you will be taken to Paypal where you can pay with a credit/debit card or a Paypal account. Alternatively, you can pay via Bank Transfer.
