Dracula by Bram Stoker

June 7th · 2-night stay

Perched dramatically above the North Sea, Whitby is forever entwined with the dark imagination of Dracula. It was here that Bram Stoker found the inspiration that would shape one of the most enduring Gothic novels ever written - a place of stormy skies, ancient steps, shadowed ruins, and uneasy beauty.

This immersive trip invites you to experience Whitby as Stoker did: walking the clifftop paths, climbing the famous 199 steps to the abbey ruins, and exploring the town where fiction and folklore blur into something unforgettable.

What to expect:

  • Two nights’ accommodation at Resolution Hotel, Whitby, perfectly placed in the heart of the old town
  • A guided exploration of key locations connected to Dracula, including Whitby Abbey, the harbour, and the East Cliff
  • Time to explore Whitby’s winding streets, independent shops, and atmospheric coastline at a relaxed pace
  • A hosted book club dinner, with a private space to discuss Dracula and its lasting legacy
  • Breakfast each morning and a hosted dinner included during the stay

itinerary

Day 1 · June 7th - Arrival

Arrive in Whitby and check into the hotel at your leisure. In the early evening, we’ll gather for an informal welcome meal at the famous Magpie Café, the wonderful Fish & Chip restaurant by the harbour. A chance to meet fellow readers, settle into the rhythm of the trip, and set the scene for the days ahead.

Day 2 - June 8th · Whitby & Dracula

After breakfast, we’ll explore the places that shaped Stoker’s imagination. Our walk takes in the harbour, the Church of St Mary, and the famous 199 steps leading to the haunting ruins of Whitby Abbey - a setting that looms large in the novel.

The afternoon is free to linger: perhaps a coastal walk, a museum visit, or time in a quiet café with the book. In the evening, we’ll reconvene for our book club dinner, where we have a private room for dinner and to discuss Dracula, its themes, and how Whitby transforms the reading experience.

Day 3 - June 9th · Departure

After breakfast and checkout, there’s time for a final stroll through the old town before heading home, carrying with you a deeper connection to both the novel and the place that inspired it.

This Whitby trip balances literary discovery, gentle exploration, and unhurried conversation - a chance to experience Dracula not just as a story, but as a place.

So everyone can stay together, accommodation is booked at the centrally located Resolution Hotel, Whitby, offering comfortable rooms and easy access to the harbour, old town, and clifftop paths that define the spirit of this remarkable place.
