Still Life is Sarah Winman's best-selling book about friendship, family and love, with the heart of the book firmly set in Florence. Join us on a book-themed holiday in Florence where we will visit the sites, eat in the restaurant where Sarah had the meal and soak in the atmosphere of the city that Ulysses made his home.
We will talk about the book over dinner in the restaurant in Florence where Sarah Winman ate, saw the photos of the mud angels and Still Life was born.
The quite stunning church in Piazza del Carmine where Ulysses lived. Just wait until you see what lies behind that ordinary looking door.
It is all about being socialable and making new friends. Enjoying Florence with new people that you already have a shared interest with.
ITINERARY
Monday 13th May 2024
After arriving in the afternoon, we will all meetup in the afternoon and have a welcome drink before heading out to for something to eat locally.
Tuesday 14th May 2024
In the morning we will head down to the start of our gentle wander around the sites and locations in the book. We will start in the square where Ulysses lived in the Piazza del Carmine and visit the stunning Cappella Brancacci church in the square before heading off to the nearby Piazza Santo Spirito, a short walk from the Ponte Vecchio for lunch. In the afternoon we will explore the medieval city and take in the sights of Florence, stopping for a drink here and there and then head up to the observation point for a stunning view of Florence skyline.
In the evening I have booked a table for us all at I’Brindellone, the restaurant that Sarah ate at and saw the photos of the mud angels on the wall and first had the idea for Still Life.
Wednesday 15th May 2024
Today is a free today to spend as you wish. The gorgeous Boboli Gardens are beautiful and features in the book or you may prefer exploring more of the sights of the medieval centre of Florence and take in a visit to the Uffizi gallery to see where works by Michelangelo, de Vinci and Botticellis The birth of Venus.We will all meetup again in the evening for a meal together.

- Walking visit to the main sites of Florence from the book, along with other places

- Book meeting over dinner at I’Brindellone
- A welcome drink on the first evening so we can all meet each other
There are only ten places on this trip, so early booking essential. As people will come from different places and want to stay for different lengths of time, flights and accommodation are not included, but direct flights are available to Florence airport from Gatwick, London city airport and Edinburgh amongst others. I can also recommend flying into Pisa airport and getting the train into Florence from there. If you want to travel in a sustainable way, there are trains that go from London to Florence every day regularly.
