Elena Ferrante's My Brilliant Friend, which charts two best friends’ journey into adulthood in post-war Naples with great emotional depth and luminous storytelling, is the perfect book to accompany us on our journet to Naples.
It is all about being sociable and making new friends. Enjoying Naples with new people and sharing the experience with them.
The Bay of Naples with views of Mount Vesuvius in across the Bay. We will wander around the sites of Naples and down to the bay for stunning views of the Bay.
It is Naples after all, so a pizza and a glass of Italian wine in an authentic Napoli restaurant is the ideal setting for having our book club meeting about the book.
ITINERARY
Friday 17th May 2024
After arriving in the afternoon, we will all meetup in the evening and have a welcome drink before heading out to for something to eat locally.
Saturday 18th May 2024
In the morning we will head down to the start of our gentle wander around the streets of Naples, visiting Spaccanapoli, the bustling narrow street that traverses Naples’s historic centre and soaking up the atmosphere of Naples.In the afternoon we will walk down to the Bay and see the Castel dell’Ovo. Constructed by the Normans during the 12th century, this location has served as a stronghold, a royal residence, and a penitentiary throughout its extensive past. Although the castle itself is not accessible, guests can amble through the small island it stands on. All the while enjoing breathtaking views of the Gulf of Naples.
After exploring the city and the waterfront, we will have a meal in a Pizza restaurant in the heart of the city that first created the pizza.
Sunday 19th May 2024
Today is a free today to spend as you wish either exploring alone or with others. Naples has so many sites to offer the tourist, including the underground Catacombe di San Gennaro and the treasures of the Naples National Archaeological MuseumA Grand Tour
Why not make the most of your trip to Italy. Join us for two or more trips at the same time. Milan and Florence go well together, and Naples for My Brilliant Friend goes perfectly with Pompeii.

There are only ten places on this trip, so early booking essential. As people will come from different places and want to stay for different lengths of time, flights and accommodation are not included, but direct flights are available to Naples airport from many UK airports. The high speed rail network is fantastic and can recommend using it if you want to visit other areas of Italy at the same time.
Naples is a great city to stay in, but if you are thinking of seeing Pompeii or joining the Pompeii books in places trip while you are here, I would recommend staying in the town of Pompeii, as this has many lovely hotels, is more affordable than Naples and is only 30 minutes from Naples by train (train tickets only cost about £3 each way).
